Faith is simply taking God at His word.  Mark 9:32 "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." KJV

Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Here, faith is described as both  "substantive" and "evidential."  It is more than a casual belief, it is a substantive conviction that is evidenced by the fruit it produces.
